Dans la Chine des années 60, le peuple s'en prend à un riche propriétaire. Mei, une jeune ouvrière, participe au mouvement de la foule. Soudain elle reconnaît en la victime l'homme dont elle est éprise. Redoutant de dévoiler ses sentiments, Mei ne sait que faire.
